The Kingdom of the Horizon Islands archipelago is a strategic ally of the US due to its geographic location. To improve relations, the US and the Kingdom made weapon trade agreements, where the US sold off some of its old equipment to compliment their aging Soviet era equipment.
The local King is generally liked by the public, however, the General in charge of the military does not. Just a few days ago, he organised a coup d’état to overthrow the King and capture any loyalists. They also made threats against the US to stay out of their affairs or to suffer consequences.

OPORD

I Situation

To protect our ally, the President has decided to send in our military to the archipelago. The United States Marine Corps have been tasked with organising the initial rescue of the King and preparations for the full assault on any military targets.

Friendly Forces

  • United States Marine Forces Special Operations Command
  • Platoon, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, DMT, MAT, Nightbird
  • USS Liberty

Assets

  • 4 x Speedboat Minigun - 11 seats: 1 x driver, 1 x commander, 1 x rear gunner, 8 x passenger - no callsign
  • 2x MH-6M Littlebird - 8 seats: 1x pilot, 1x co-pilot, 6x passenger - callsign “Nightbird”
  • 1x AH-6M Littlebird - 2 seats: 1x pilot, 1x co-pilot - callsign “Nightbird”

Enemy Forces

  • Tanoa Liberation Army - rebels and turncoats of the Horizon Islands Defence Force. A mix of cold-war era Soviet and US equipment.

Civilians

  • Full civilian presence. They might be working in the military bases, so watch your fire.
  • Generally neutral.

II Mission

Our unit is tasked with locating and rescuing the King. A loyalist within the hostile forces has provided limited intel regarding the whereabouts of the King. Based on the latest info, he is located in an Airbase to the North West of the Tanoa Islands on a military training island. As we are not sure what they might do to the King, time, stealth and speed is of the essence. Once rescued, and extracted, we are to take out some key targets and rescue any loyalists.
USS Liberty is available for fire support and has preplanned targets on the island for when you are ready to start your assault. This will take out the communication infrastructure to prevent communication with the mainland.

III Execution

Commander’s Intent

  • You are to attack the airbase, either with stealth and recon, or with speed and fire.
  • You have access to both boats and helos for your approach.
  • Once the King is rescued and other final objectives are secured, you are to return to USS Liberty.

Movement Plan

  • Prior to the assault, stealth is key. Ensure you strike with surprise.
  • Our informant has identified an area clear of patrols for a safe landing. (LZ Zero)
  • Hostiles are on higher alert, be aware of patrols.

Fire Support

  • Fire Support via USS Liberty (Cruise Missiles and Artillery)

Optional Tasks

  • Gather any intelligence found.
  • Prevent destruction of enemy assets if possible.

IV Administration / Logistics

  • Any surrendered hostiles are to be secured and interrogated for intel.

Resupplying

  • Ammo resupply available at USS Liberty. Limited ammo resupply at LZ Zero.

Reinforcements

  • Reinsertions will be on the hour every hour and be adhered to strictly, no deviation is allowed.
  • Reinsertions are the same for all, including vehicles teams.
  • Platoon Commander has a one time reinsertion wild card at his disposal, call this in through HQ.
  • At predesignated times, reinforcements will be sent out of the base in the smallest transport vehicle which can hold reinforcements.
  • At predesignated times, an air transport will be sent out to pick up reinforcements from the base.
  • Upon insertion to the AO, reinforcements should stick together until regrouping with the main force in the AO.

Good and difficult mission. On the last OP I left high difficulty as positive feedback too but I’m still not used to it.
Like Chorizo said during the OP: “Game face on” - you’ll be punished for your mistakes.

On the first objective the enemy used M79 grenade launchers (and RPGs) that really made things difficult. Attacking downhill with no cover didn’t help when we got slaughtered. I understand there was a GM mishap with enemy infantry placement at the same time, which turned it all into a perfect storm. No worries though, reinforcements arrived and we saved the king! Good work everyone.
