I think we should do a pole on this to first off all find out where people stand. One of those important ones in the right side of the site. I’m neither for or against but I think it would be nice to know the opinion of the community and then take it from there.
I agree with Anders.
Before we make any decision we need to find out who is buying the DLC in the first place. If only a handful of us are buying us then there is no way we should make it a prerequisite. However if 75%, 80% or 90% of us are buying it, then we can ask the question.
I will say that by default I don’t like the idea of saying to someone that they are out, just because they can’t afford the DLC for whatever reason.
We’ll do a poll in community announcements soon, as APEX is revealed on 13th of June officially and a release date will be said.
I’d love to include this as our standard thing, yet I can’t say that for more than 60 people that are playing with us.
We’re already a bit low on numbers and excluding others from play because of a paywall would not be wisest thing to do.
But we’ll see, if the poll turns out that 80-100% will buy it, we might consider it then.
I’ll be probably buying it slightly later down the road, at a discount (when BI realizes everybody who wanted it at the original price already bought it). I think it’s only fair as I bought the game and all existing DLCs at full price (~80EUR?) because I really wanted to play it with you.
(And also, being new to Steam, I didn’t know how often the discounts came.)
Apex website is up with all content listed/teased:
It’s on discount (-20%) until release. I doubt they will lower the price anytime soon. They might take 10-20% off during summer sale so I wouldn’t expect any better deal for quite some time.

I have pre ordered I can’t wait
So my predictions are comming true… It will be CTRG (because I recognized the dirt bike style helmet faceplates as something the British are looking at adopting and it was clearly their camo from The East Wind. They’ll be facing off against CSAT again, though instead of iranian, I reckon they will be mainly chinese)
I like the new vtols. The NATO one is great, it can function like an AC130 Spectre Gunship. And the CSAT looks really mobile, and very sci-fi. We also get a UAZ attack chopper which is great. Reccomend we incorparate it and the VTOL Spectre Gunship into our missions, Hopefully along with the APEX DRAKON mod, which adds a jet powered UAZ that wipes the floor with the crappy propeller vanilla UAZ.
It also looks like there will be a few magazine alternatives with different models when you slot them in. I expect modders to follow suit. I really should be able to see at a glance that i’m using a drum magazine in my assault rifle, or a 30 round mag in my AR
Unfortunately, 1-4 coop experience will not be available for the native Eastern Wind campaign.

This looks pretty cool,if anything concealment might be too easy, and the vanilla AI seems to stop shooting too soon. Obviously have no idea what affect this will have on ASR AI

Don’t worry, this is all very adjustable and ASR AI by default does a LOT more of suppression on the last known position, which the AI in the video has correctly pinpointed.
In addition to the whole suppression framework that was added in 1.60 – if you’re a GM and want to do some suppression, take over some leading soldier, aim where you want it and order AI 3-9 via the command menu ("Suppressive Fire").

I might be missing some stuff but does anybody actually need the Apex to play DLC stuff? Somewhere in this forum someone posted a video where BI explained their DLC logic. Which was giving people who didn’t buy the DLC just low quality models and inability to create missions with them by themselves. They said that this was created exactly to avoid this split community issue. Isn’t this the case for Apex? I don’t own Apex currently but got 5 GB update. Sure there are base game updates but not 5GB worth.
i think that was back in arma 2 days
Yeah playing the AI in the campaign last night with Teddy and they were really aggressive and moved alot more, definatly noticed they didn’t just go prone were they were in fact because of the foliage they were normally kneeling or standing to see over it. Really good so far.
All the content is viewable in the vr simulator thing, but not outside that.
Hey guys
If you haven’t already, please make sure to participate in this poll as it will be our main source of information to decide whether or not APEX will become a community requirement.
Your inputs will be a very important factor regarding how we process this expansion. To keep everyone in the loop, currently three options are on the table:
a.) full integration, meaning owning APEX is a requirement
b.) partial integration, official events will not feature APEX but mini-ops could if organised by community members
c.) we ignore the expansion and continue with modded content
APEX is the first DLC in Arma 3 where they kinda stray away from the approach you’ve described above. Non-DLC owners will profit from the sound, graphics and AI updates as well as the usual bug fixes (and bug introductions). I say "kinda" because as with Marksmen and Helo DLC the weapons are locked and the vehicles are partially locked (you can be passenger in all APEX vehicles, but not a driver) so nothing has changed in that regard. However, the core piece of the experience, the first official BI jungle map, is fully locked and only accessible for DLC owners.
