From the Intercept project, an ARMA3 C++ interface under construction, hooking native functions backing SQF, eg. without any SQF overhead (both in machine time and human WTF/h moments).
Would you mind explain me what the intercept project is ?
I’m not 100% sure, the developer talks about it a bit here, it seems to be trying to enable mod developers to code their addons in C++, but how exactly it works is beyond me.
It’s a wrapper for Detour, a Windows library/mechanism to hook any (presumably) WINAPI library function call. I haven’t looked closely at how Arma parses and executes SQF, but if it uses a separate DLL, one can theoretically "replace" the DLL (in-memory) and operate (handle/call) the engine functions directly.
In English, this effectively adds a C++ addon interface for Arma3 - projects like ACRE2/ACE3 are already planning to use it to decrease the performance impact of some advanced algorithms (that are otherwise slow in native SQF).
