PvP - CQB HELL!

Please leave feed back, stories or videos about the event here.

Some things I have picked up myself:

  • Block entrances to the stairs on Mosque wall.
  • Fix mission ending on time out. Weird crashing scene.

I hoped it was going to be cool but players really didn’t use any tactics taught in the training before the event and it reverted to same old RUSH PvP. Mission had it’s quirks but that didn’t influence the game experience at all.

Realworld tactics just don’t translate well intro Arma 3 PvP and since most of us played Arma/Dayz PvP before it’s no wonder why the things we did in OP turned out how they did. Also the way the buildings in Zargabad are don’t really allow it either (Lots of rooftops, small cramped buildings with lots of windows and glass doors and lots of open space between said buildings). I am however in the process of making a custom map which will make some of the tactics we learned in the training easier to use (hopefully).

Well, we should then teach the ones that work in Arma PvP. No point in going to intercommunity event getting kicked. But IMHO, a lot of real world tactics work, we just didn’t even try them.

In real pvp the best tactic is to strafe back and forth spraying bullets down range until one of you dies.

That’s a oversimplification. Being good at PvP involves a lot of factors. And the best way to improve on those is doing lots of PvP.

Movement: One of the key ones Price mentioned was movement. Especially on rooftops like on Zargabad you NEVER stop moving. Always be paranoid and expect someone to shoot you unless you’re covered from all sides (hallway for example).
If you get shot don’t retaliate and run for cover, try to get as much space between you and the spot you’ve been shot at. And try to get another good location and try to spot the guy who shot at you.

Spotting: Next important thing is spotting. 90% of Arma PvP encounters is won by the guy who spots the opponent first. Always do 360 scans, always repeat those scans every 5-10 seconds especially in maps like Zargabad where other players might be all around you. And always prioritize looking at the directions you’re most exposed at.

Aggresiveness: The easiest players to beat in PvP are the ones who are passive. Meaning the ones that will stay in one location for too long even though they’ve been spotted. Remaining in one place for too long gives your opponents time to think up a strategy or a way to easily take you out. A common scenario is someone hiding on a rooftop and getting taken out by a grenade.

TLDR: Play CSGO

Also if you run out of ammo quick release a grenade, drop and resign yourself to heaven’s judgement, because it will probably give you a better chance than making a break for cover and reloading will if you’re fairly out in the open. Also snipers? The best way to not get shot is to serpent team. sprint then run, then sprint, then run, the more frustrated they get the shittier they shoot.

Not going to say much, just that I had lots of fun and I hope this kind of events gets played more often.

Like I said in the end of the training. Never use this tactic in PvP. I’d love to see anyone try it in a pvp mission and get there whole fireteam killed.
Dachi also mentioned in the end that this tactic can’t be used in PvP.

Well what I said was that you would have to use the tactics against players smartly, I gave example of not just performing a hook entry on a room you know a player is in but maybe using more advanced tactics and being smart by having two guys on that door and send two to the other then get the guys at the front to open and throw flash while back team makes entry.

i.e. using deception or diversion tactics to best effect because one things humans do that AI don’t really is get tunnel vision if you’re watching a door and you know guys are outside waiting to breach you ain’t gonna look away especially if they open that door.

These tactics will work in PvP you just need to employ them to best effect and while using other PvP techniques as well.
