Monday Hardcore experience

Guys, i would like to host some short, 1 life missions on Monday evening standard OP time.

The goal is to have fun and most important:

  • Improve skill on fire-team/leader level and get some training done
  • Play more slow, but use all the tactics we know (Peeling, Fire and Maneuver, Withdraw, etc.)
  • Take more time to plan
  • Get known your fireteam and what leaders want/need
  • More attention on FT-Buddy’s
  • Only Feedback on "How we did."

I would like to know in advance who takes role of FTL and if we get enough people together SQL.

If you need missions, I can convert something I’ve made to 1 life. I recommend turning AI ON in case you get connection issues - you would be able to come back to your character (AI takes over until you reconnect).

I’m all for that but there’s no way I can be counted on for even 21h.

If the session lasted until 23h or 23:30, I’d join when I can, no later than 22h. That would still give us 1.5 hrs of gameplay.

Ok … i see that Monday is not top! How about Thursday?

Why not play it on Friday night after one regular mission? You die and go to bed.

Ok, seems like there is some interest! i will try to start this project after Holidays! Will come back on you Highway about missions.

I would love to see this implemented ! A few thoughts:

> I guess it would be a short mission (1h-1h30 ?) so we could start at 9pm instead of 8pm to allow more people to join.
> Does the day have to be fixed ? It could change from week to week again to allow more people to join.

Idea itself is good and the other thing is that it’s more of a practice. Seems like great idea to me. Everything that makes you honour your life in Arma is great thing :slight_smile:

I’d love to get my leadership on A level, make up a fancy plan and after that use all the tactics. Since it’s small and probably short mission(I would say that it would be around the length of 20+ rounds match in CS:GO) you want to do it right rather than rush in like morons.I really want to see this happening since people might get used to using more tactics and improve communication on team level(since… well it’d be one squad it seems). BRING IT ON!

You need to be aware of one thing. These milsim missions are planned few days before. You just don’t show up on Monday night and invent something in 5 minutes and then die in minute number four. That’s why I would kindly ask to specify the mission briefing days ahead, pick the mission commander immediately and give him time to plan. That doesn’t mean overplanning and creating operation barbarossa operational plan imagining divisions and panzer armies but it’s neither ad hoc. Above all, there is a major immersive factor when planning takes place in advance and with knowledge of the participants. I have seen that people very much get fired up for it.

  • Mission start at 9pm sounds O.K for me, if more people can join why not (but "more" may not be "better" in the beginning).
  • Yes, once we tested how it works, if it works and if people can profit, why not changing the day!
  • I don’t like to talk about fancy, i want us to use all the simple procedures we know already but bring them up at LEVEL 100!
  • Good point Highway, this should be planned some days in advance. I don’t think it will be milsim but small enough to concentrate on other aspects why may miss sometimes while playing larger missions. The mission could also be replayed, to change strategies and learn from it.
  • One thing guys, i don’t want to change how we play official Op’s… I Love Them (and the MM-Team). The only thing i wish for me, is to get BETTER beside playing on ops (and giving the possibility to other guys to).
  • First mission would be very simple, just to start and watch how it goes. Simple mission, perfect approach, much fun, no casualties (or INSTANT_ALL_GET_MASSACRED_MOMENT)

I’m more replying to Highway here but also to you Dulabu.

That’s pretty nice idea to make briefing and planning phase before the actual event. I see it this way:
-We get the OPORD of operation
-We book a day for briefing and planning phase
-We come on ts and with some materials we brief everyone and then we choose commander(I assume it’d be Alpha Squad lead and commander in 1 as we probably will get only 1 squad)
-Lower class(jk) leaves the ts and leaders make a plan that is presumably not "go in and kill from 1 side".(I will be leader so much in those just to improve the skills and PLANNING! I love strategies… help)
-We write it down(and memorise it, leaders? hmm? :slight_smile: ) and then copy, paste to the mission details so everyone knows what’s happening and we don’t have to waste time to explain it in base.
-Proceed

I would like the event start to be just questions time(if there are any) so we can move out in 5-10 minutes instead of 30-40 as it usually is.

About the time… IDK 9PM seems… kinda late. I also like to play other games lads, 9PM means we end at 10PM and later hence usually no people to play other games with. I will attend those if there are at 9PM but not so often as if they were at 8PM.

About mastering. YES!!! Let’s get to level 100 to feel like elite elitists :smiley:
What has come to my mind with repeating the missions is that we also master them. The same way back in the day people used to master certain levels in some games. Like hitman. Let’s play the shit out of them until we’ve done it in every way possible and just perfect. So most of the people is still alive and objective is done the fastest as it could be. Since it’s arma there are millions of ways to handle one single scenario so Let’s just keep it simple. Let’s get few ideas(perhaps on the briefing meeting but not necessarily) and then make them happen. And if we will think it gets boring we will switch missions and go back to it later or never.

Since it looks like a project done on side by small group of people I think we can all ask eachother when will be the best day and set the date so we can have the biggest attendance(perhaps a weekly poll with ability to change answer?).

To me it seems like a solid plan, what about you? You people think it’s the good way of handling it or not?

I’d simplify that.

  1. Day D-3 OPORD is written and published on the web site.
  2. Day D-2 We agree on who is the commander in the event comments.
  3. Day D-1 Mission commander does a mission plan. He can do it alone or he can consult others, up to him, but his word is command, he takes the authority. He should pick his fireteam leaders in agreement with them.
  4. Day D-1hr (2000) - SL and FTLs go through the plan on Teamspeak. Mission maker could be present if needed to answer some questions without revealing more than needed (as usual).
  5. We do after action report in the thread instead on the server. That way things stay documented and people who leave early because they got a bullet too early will be able to read it.

Just 2 things.
Can we meet on ts at 2030 or something in that fashion? After all its like 30-40 minutes wasted, waiting for the OP to start. I still think that updating the plan to OPORD is a better idea but now when I think about it… it’s another thing to do on web page and… why bother people right?

You have to agree/declare on FTL. If they are to come beforehand they have to know who they are. Soo… Commander+FTL voting/agreement in comments>plan making(with our without leaders)>plan briefing on ts at D- 30min>role selection> questions> camera, action

On mission types - food for thought.

Playing against the odds on Friday night is ok since we have multiple lives (3 per event?) so we can handle numerically superior enemy and fight as half strength infantry platoon. One life missions on the other hand need to take that into account.

Due to number of players, these will most likely be special forces or insurgency scenarios.

a. Special forces can be put in tough situations and sometimes against the odds, but I believe it would be realistic to have a respectively advanced gear and equipment like sniper rifle for a sniper-spotter pair, NVGs, night scopes (most special force missions are over night or bad weather), special binoculars to leaders, maybe UAV support for reconnaissance.

b. Insurgency missions are lowish on gear, mostly basic ("stolen") stuff that usually can be improved during the mission (stealing from the enemy) but also ability to disappear in the crowds (well that’s a challenge to model!).

We can always try fighting a good old pitched battle but IMHO it will be mission impossible and against the nature of this idea ("more realistic environment"). Of course, up to you Dulabu.

I don’t know if you plan to use Zeus or not?

I think the idea is great, one life missions really put on the pressure and the ideas so far have been really good let me know if you guys need any help with anything can’t wait to play these!!
