29th of July is good for me so yeah sounds good I will be staying about 15mins from central London so will probably travel in daily to meet up with you guys.
I’m quite happy to act as a tour guide/navigator around the mess that is central london. Are there any places people would like to go?
Despite living in London I don’t often go out in central (being that I’m more inclined to grab food and sit somewhere I can chat with folks, than go clubbing) but there’s more than a few decent places near me (South London), though I do know a few good places on the South Bank for some nice views while we drink.
So where is gunna be the best place to stay? Victoria, Southwark, Waterloo etc. Where are we going to go for food and drinks on Saturday night? I wanna try and stay as close to that location as possible.
And I gotta go to the Imperial War Mesuem too lol.
So, for visitors that want to do touristy stuff: most of London’s famous attractions are within about 20 minutes (by foot) of each other, in and around Westminster: Houses of Parliment (aka Palace of Westminster, with Big Ben attached), Westminster Abbey, London Eye, most everything on the Thames. Buckingham Palace is a bit of a trek in its own direction, and Tower Bridge is in the opposite direction, but that’s all doable in a day with drinking time to spare.
If you want to do a Museum (and most of London’s best museums are free to enter) then you will probably have to pick one and do it. The Imperial War Museum is probably going to be our theme, and isn’t far from Waterloo (and so Westminster), but there are others: British Museum (incredible, but you can spend a full day in there), Science Museum, Natural History Museum, several art galleries, etc. We would, sadly, need an early start and we will be touristing at the height of tourist season when London will be at its most unpleasant (I have yet to go to a city quite like it anywhere else).
As for drinks in the evening we have some choices: either near me, or we can head to somewhere on the Southbank (I know a few good places). It’s London so don’t expect cheap drinks (£5 a pint/586ml is a minimum). In all honesty I don’t fancy clubbing until 4am (I would like to be able to move on Sunday, and I am a terrible hungover person).
Please, attendees, give me feedback.
I’ll look at coming up on the Friday and leave Sunday morning. I might stay in the Holiday Inn Express in Southwark as it seems to be a good location for where we want to go.
Touristy stuff in the morning, Imperial War Museum in the afternoon, then food and drink. No clubbing for me. I’m an old man!
I will PM those that expressed interest. If you haven’t already and feel like joining us (including those that voted, but didn’t comment), then do let me know.
So it looks like we’ve postponed until August/September so more people can attend.
So how about
Saturday 26th August
or
Saturday 16th September
26th August is fine by me.
Either works for me.
So are we saying that Saturday 26th August is booked in now then?
…Silence…
Are we stil doing this guys because I want to get stuff booked up???
26th August is good for me. Folks, do tell us if you’re interested.
Yeah still up for it any date really!
Interested! But the 26th for me is a no go. I am full that weekend. Can do the weekend after it.
Weekend after should be no problem.
So we’re saying 2nd of September???
Sounds good to me!
I can do that weekend
Awesome. Now that’s sorted, let’s not change it again!
