Medical System

Reasonably similar to CNTO, however, fractures may occur in rare cases. Medics carry consumable PAKs for severe injuries such as fractures.

Stamina System

ACE’s advanced stamina system is active during the op. This means one must constantly lower their primary weapon outside of combat to retain stamina. Any loadout heavier than 35kg is severely penalised.

Respawns / Reinserts

After death, you will enter spectator mode for 3 minutes. Afterwards, you will automatically respawn at the base, where LION will reinsert you either through C-130 or MH-6M. An emergency teleporter flag is present in case of bugs or pilots being completely unavailable.

Arsenal Box

An arsenal box is present to allow for minor cosmetic changes and for JIP players to obtain specific gear to fill out disconnected player roles.

  • Do not grab gear you don’t need. With the advanced stamina system present, any loadout above 35kg will slow down the entire squad!

  • Do not change your intended role. E.g. if you spawn as Rifleman LAT don’t swap your gear to play as Automatic Rifleman or Marksman. The weapons in the Arsenal box are available for Join in Progress (JIP) Players to swap their loadouts as needed in the platoon.

  • Do not slow down the platoon. We want to be able to move out into the AO quickly after the briefing and planning have concluded. Don’t make everybody wait because you want to have a milsim Barbie fashion show.

OPORD

I Situation

South Vietnam is in crisis. The government is unstable after a series of coups following President Ngô Đình Diệm’s 1963 assassination, leaving weak military regimes in power. The Viet Cong control large parts of the countryside and are intensifying their insurgency, supported by North Vietnam. They now operate more openly and often at regimental level rather than smaller scale cells. The South Vietnamese Army (ARVN) is struggling with poor morale and corruption. To prevent collapse, the United States begins major military intervention —deploying combat troops and getting more directly involved.

The Iron Triangle—a roughly 120 km² area northwest of Saigon is one of the strongest Viet Cong strongholds in South Vietnam. It serves as a strategic base area and sanctuary for the VC, containing supply depots, training camps, field hospitals, and an extensive tunnel network. From there, the Viet Cong can launch attacks directly into Saigon and then retreat safely into the jungle.
Despite ARVN efforts they had to abandon many firebases within the Iron triangle.

Enemy Forces

The Viet Cong is a capable fighting force, fanaticised and masters at jungle warfare and ambushes. Mostly equipped with WW2/Salvaged French equipment and Chinese or Soviet gear.
Their equipment is not uniformed and may vary on a man to man basis. They wear civilian type clothing although a complete black pajama is fairly common.
They do not operate any motorised vehicles in this area but they are known to transport large quantities of equipment on bicycle mules.

Support elements are mainly 60mm mortars and ZGU-1 14.5mm AA guns.
They also dispose of a range of heavy machineguns on concealed emplacements.
They do not have air assets.

Civilians

The Village of CU CHI does harbor civilians. Avoid destroying the village if possible and use support assets primarily outside the village.

II Mission

The mission will be carried out in 3 phases.

Phase 1 (Objective Amelia): Platoon Attack

  • Landing at LZ Alabama.

  • The platoon supported by Artillery and Air will carry out an attack on the village of CU CHI.

  • Rooting out any VC resistance in the vicinity.

  • Expect heavy resistance and drawn out firefights against a prepared enemy.

  • Our early estimate placed the enemy at 1 to 2 platoon strength.

Phase 2 (Objective Bethany): Sweep&Clear

  • Once CU CHI and its surroundings is under control the platoon will sweep and clear the way to Firebase Dau Tieng along the riverside.

  • Clearing out any VC stronghold in the vicinity.

  • The leadership should position the platoon in a broad frontage to cover as much ground as possible and prevent rapid encirclement.

Phase 3 (Objective Caroline): Occupation of Firebase Dau Tieng

  • The platoon will reoccupy the previously abandoned Firebase Dau Tieng and remain overnight.

  • Expect the VC to do everything within their power to root you out and prevent long term establishment of US presence in the Iron Triangle.

Recon Teams

  • While separate from the main force you will scout the northern flank of the platoon hunting for mortar bases and AA positions allowing more freedom of movement to the main force.

  • Expect enemy patrols in your AO and only attack if sure to win.

  • Feel free to call support from available air assets or artillery in coordination with the artillery RTO at platoon level.

  • For phase 3 it is suggested you fall back within Firebase Dau Tieng for the night.

III Execution

Commander’s Intent

  • The mission is designed around a succession of attack and defense. The platoon will have to adapt its combat posture based on the situation and rapidly change its posture based on tactical development.

  • Don’t be too hasty and always assume there’s more enemies than the one you can see. Coordinate as much as possible with artillery power and Air power to overcome enemy concentration. Expect a higher casualty rate than usual and make full use of helicopters for quick and close reinsertion of reinforcements.

  • For the recon team you’ll need to make your own judgement calls on when to attack and when to seek support. You’re a fragile force and the nature of the terrain will make reinsertion difficult.

Movement Plan

Field Support

  • 2x UH-1D ‘Slick’ Transport Helo

  • 1x UH-1C ‘Gunship’

  • 1x 60mm Mortar battery based in FSB Berchtesgaden

  • 1x 105mm Howitzer battery based in FSB Berchtesgaden

IV Administration / Logistics

Radio Structure

  • Every element will be equipped with a 343 SR radio (300m max range) for internal communication.

  • The main Radio net across the platoon will be the channel 01 on the 152 LR Radio (5000m Max Range)

  • An emergency channel with high Command (ZEUS) is setup on channel 04 on the 152 LR [Mostly for technical stuff/bugs/crash and so on]

Chain of Command

  • The main Radio net across the platoon will be the channel 01 on the 77 LR Radio (8000m Max Range)

  • Air net is on Channel 2

  • Recon Net is channel 3

  • No personal radios across the platoon

  • An emergency channel with high Command (ZEUS) is setup on channel 04 on the 77 LR [Mostly for technical stuff/bugs/crash and so on]

Platoon chain of command : PL → PSGT → 1 SL → 2 SL → Etc
Squad CoC : SL → TL Alpha → TL Bravo

The platoon Lead is in charge of the entire movement and overall planning. Command of the specialist elements can be delegated to PSGT.

Resupply & Reinsertion

  • Squad supplies and medical boxes will be provided and will be transported by helos.

  • Respawn will happen at main base and reinserts done via helos and an emergency re-insert will be available at base using a TP telephone to respective Squad Medics in case of bugs or crash.

  • Respawn time is 2 minutes before automatic respawn at main.

Technical / Performance Information

It is advised for the infantry elements to limit their view distance to between 1500 and 2000m to reduce performance impact on them. The nature of the terrain will rarely give you longer lines of sight anyway.

Vietnam specific rules and systems

Radio and RTO

Squad compositions in Vietnam were a bit different from modern structure. Squad leaders rarely handled LR radios themselves leaving it to a trained and practiced member of the squad. The RTO. Because members of the squad don’t have personal radios the SL job is more intense and command&control requires more attention. Offloading the LR work to another member helps SLs to focus internally rather than externally.

Map and Runner

In Vietnam based campaign map markers are not automatically shared across every player. When someone places down a marker only players in direct proximity (25 meters) of the drawer get their map automatically updated. Anyone else must copy the map from someone with an up-to-date map to get those markers (ace interaction on the other player and use “Copy Map” action.) It might be useful for a SL to get an updated map from the PL. To streamline this process a runner is often sent to copy a map and bring it back to its own squad to share it with its SL.

Artillery RTO

This unique role comes only thanks to the SOG Prairie Fire CDLC and makes use of the fire support system. It can dynamically call artillery on enemy positions through a custom menu and based on available assets. It requires a bit of terrain reading and knowledge of friendly and enemy positions at the time of the call. The amount of support is limited to 60mm and 105mm to avoid being overpowered. The system being also regulated by cooldowns per type of ammo.

Dibs on 1-2 Medic. Small note, this OPORD says “DLC Required: None”, Sesh says SOG Prairie Fire

Fixed DLC requirements.

@PricePole please post role reservations in the Sesh thread so they are all collected in one single location: Discord

The OPORD is only posted on the forums as a stop-gap-measure, because the character limitations of Discord made it a pain to publish it there.

Locked the topic so people don’t post role reservations here out of habit.
