I Situation

Enemy armour has been pushed back from the southern desert and into the city. Enemy infantry in the city has made progress slow for the armoured and mechanized elements. One friendly tank and an attached special forces team broke through the line to disable an air defence site keeping our CAS out. The tank however, has been damaged and the crew wounded.

Friendly Forces

  • US Army 9th Ranger Battalion, 3rd PLT
  • PLT, A, B, C, MMG, MAT, HAT, ENG, DGR

Assets

  • 2x M1025A2 (M2) - 5 seats: 1x driver, 1x gunner, 3x passenger
  • 3x M1025A2 - 4 seats: 1x driver, 3x passenger
  • 1x MTVR (Repair, Refuel, Rearm) - 3 seats: 1x driver, 2x passenger

Enemy Forces

  • Enemy has hurriedly set up defences in the city, including heavy armour and disorganized infantry.

Civilians

  • Yes
  • Civilians are uninformed about the war and will avoid interaction with military units of either side.

II Mission

We are to escort engineers and a new crew to disabled tank “War Pig” and escort it to the SF so they can complete their mission.

III Execution

Commander’s Intent

  • Repair and resupply War Pig
  • Escort War Pig to the SF with the new crew

Movement Plan

  • At PLT’s Discretion

Fire Support

  • Artillery Battery “Wild Boar” Available for fires

Optional Tasks

  • There are ZUs spread through the town, take out any you can.

IV Administration / Logistics

Resupplying

  • Resupply available at base.

Reinforcements

  • Reinsertions will be on the hour every hour and be adhered to strictly, no deviation is allowed.
  • Reinsertions are the same for all, including vehicles teams.
  • Platoon Commander has a one time reinsertion wild card at his disposal, call this in through HQ.
  • At predesignated times, reinforcements will be sent out of the base in the smallest transport vehicle which can hold reinforcements.
  • Upon insertion to the AO, reinforcements should stick together until regrouping with the main force in the AO.

Despite the numbers, it was still quite fun. Thanks for the OP!

Red Team did quite good, props to @Dachi and @Nibbles on naturally forming a buddy team, clearing areas and holding security. Both did great.

@Jerry was a good M2 gunner too, managed to somehow not get shot (that much) despite plenty of lead thrown at us.

While we did get all wiped, I will pretend it did not happend for the happy ending.

A simple strategy like Volken presented, works best.

Shad managed to tweak the opposing forces to create a well balanced game with increasing resistance as the operation progressed.

Bounding with good communication.

Communication about what to do about ambushes before we encounter the first one.

Infantry clearing the side streets for any possible RPG threats.

The decision not to push through resistance but instead take cover at the side of the road next to hard cover (building/ wall) saved us.

Taking care of each other when there’s no medic around.

The M2 shoots through thin walls.

Dislikes:
None. I could say that more people should show up but the low attendance yesterday might suggest a repetition of this same operation another day with more people around.
