Coop: The Informant

Lemme know how it was?

It was a great op imo. I liked the objectives, I liked the pace, and I liked our execution of the mission. Thanks for making the mission Karl and thanks to the leaders and to Red FT.

I’ve really been (am) a rather inactive community member (a shame really but life gets in the way) so I’ve stopped writing these but I had so much fun yesterday that I’ll break my silence.

A lot of driving around - usually I don’t like that because the vics become burdens and somebody is falling asleep on the gun. WELL NOT THIS TIME, everything was done in a timely fashion, we actually used the vics, the guns were used strategically, and enemies were plentiful when it made sense! I’ve always had the feeling that with the way our medical system works equal fights are just boring and easy but this time around there wasn’t that many enemies and yet it felt like 2nd half of the mission was full of action. It was overall a very fun mission, I really have nothing much to say, kinda pointless to list everything that was fun when everything was fun xD

While communication overall was great we had some issues, I wasn’t the most attentive at times so I missed a few calls (especially since we were not to use radios) but without pointing fingers one of us was kind of… zoned out completely, and very unresponsive which was annoying throughout the mission and almost got us killed at one point. While I know we’re a rather laid back group this was really below standards and went beyond being inattentive.

Other than that, great leading from Ellpuk and whoever was in alpha lead, I think it was Clark but my memory is hazy, and insanely good job by Longbeard the medic, I have no idea how you managed to keep me alive through everything that happened to me; 1st time I had hope of survival, then immediately after waking up from the 1st mortar hit I get hit by a 2nd mortar hit and from thereon I was pretty much sure "this is how I die".

And we had this whole thing about saying we were forming up in the open to push, the opposite side of the argument was that nobody was listening to the call to do a push. I know the feeling of people not listening, I can’t blame anyone, I was just sitting right behind and wondering why we’re not pushing, then the whole forming up to initiate the push happened which was pretty crazy but it worked soo… maybe it wasn’t that crazy after all. But yeah it was really chaotic I think we should have just started running as we were but in the moment it’s never so clear.

So good job everyone, good mission, good effort. 10/10

I was Platoon Leading from Alpha, which is something I try to avoid whenever possible (I prefer being PLT), but our low player numbers made it a necessity during this op. However, thanks to very good short-range radio discipline this op it was a real joy to lead - leaders had clear comms almost all the times to communicate efficiently and quickly which was essential due to the high pace momentum I was trying to preserve to avoid getting bogged down and surrounded.

20330489 did an excellent job as FTL and convoy lead, making sure we always had good convoy comms when we had to offroad spontaneously to avoid immediate threats. 20841047 's team was sometimes a bit slower to move but overall still very good performance from yellow too. Both red and yellow leads were great at forming up 360 security independently whenever we had to stop and dismount or formulate the next phase of the mission.

Lessons of this operation:

 1. Remember we don’t have to be perfect, sometimes a bit messy and fast is better than perfect and dead/surrounded.

 2. If mortars engage us, immediately move, ideally closer to the enemy - when you hug their forces close it’s far less likely that we get bombarded.

 3. MRAPs make excellent mobile treatment stations / casualty collection points.

ENG’s with 8030574 ended up being OW-element and mobile HMV gun support which I slightly regret, because I don’t like sattling a player element as dedicated overwatch for an entire op, however I was expecting more methodical IED searching at times in the OP and unfortunately it just didn’t materialise within the scenario as we were constantly on the move. ENG did an ossum job at supporting Alpha and temporarily rotating into combat when fireteams had casualties.
