OPORD

I Situation

3rd Ranger Battalion has just taken over as lead element on OP Fairway, the British Army’s codename for peacekeeping and humanitarian missions in Eastern Mali. Our troops are fresh and eager to step foot on new soil. The previous Battalion has warned us about the ever-increasing threat of the Moussa Extremist Group and their vicious use of IEDs.

Friendly Forces

  • British Army - 3rd Ranger Battalion - ECHO Troop
  • Platoon, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, ENG, DMT, Nightbird, Mortar

Assets

  • 2x UH-60M - 16 Seats: 2x Pilot, 2x Gunner, 12x Passenger
  • 4x Quad Bike - 2 Seats: 1x Driver, 1x Passenger

Enemy Forces

  • Moussa Extremist Group (MEG)

    • Str - Roughly a battalion worth scattered amongst the mountains.
    • Locs - Known to occupy legacy patrol bases from the Malian War
    • Wpns - Legacy AK variants and RPG’s
    • Eqpt - Substantial IED capability
    • Obs - Wide 360-degree arcs from the patrol bases
    • Air Threat - Low
    • Morale - Extremely high after successful IED attacks on previous Battalion
    • Intentions - Likely to conduct “shoot and scoot” tactics on friendly C/S
  • Radicalised Civilians

    • Str - Roughly a platoon’s worth dispersed throughout multiple villages.
    • Locs - Known to frequent Village Herrick and Village Toral
    • Wpns - Anything they can get their hands on on the black market
    • Eqpt - IEDs given by the MEG
    • Obs - Limited in the villages
    • Air Threat - Low
    • Morale - Extremely high after being radicalized by the MEG
    • Intentions - Likely to disrupt any peacekeeping efforts by the British Army IOT gain notoriety and spread the word of MEG

Civilians

  • Most of the civilians throughout Mali have been very supportive of our peacekeeping and humanitarian efforts although our J2 suggests that pockets of young men have been radicalized by MEG. We are to keep a close eye for suspicious behavior and any signs of radicalization.
  • Civilians are widely present throughout the AO
  • Civilian life MUST be preserved at ALL COST

II Mission

It is ECHO Troop’s mission to conduct multiple show of force patrols IOT gain the continued trust of the local populace.

III Execution

Commander’s Intent

  • It is my intent that ECHO Troop wins the hearts and minds of the local populace by conducting patrols in villages around the AO

Movement Plan

  • Movement is up to the Platoon’s discretion but due to the ever-increasing IED threat, it has become our battalion’s SOP to use air transport wherever physically possible.

Fire Support

  • No fire support available.

Optional Tasks

  • Deliver aid to the local villages

IV Administration / Logistics

  • Resupply for all elements available at the FOB.

Reinforcements

  • Reinsertions will be on the hour every hour and be adhered to strictly, no deviation is allowed.
  • Reinsertions are the same for all, including vehicle teams.
  • Platoon Commander has a one-time reinsertion wild card at his disposal, call this in through HQ.
  • At predesignated times, reinforcements will be sent out of the base in the smallest transport vehicle which can hold reinforcements.
  • At predesignated times, an air transport will be sent out to pick up reinforcements from the base.
  • At predesignated times, an armed escort vehicle will be sent out to escort reinforcements from the base.
  • Upon insertion into the AO, reinforcements should stick together until regrouping with the main force in the AO.
