Coop: Operation Gothic Serpent

Very nice op. No real feedback that wasn’t already given. Doing it with more people would be nice, I think.

For the players, though, pleeeeaaase stop stopping or standing in place with vehicles while you are getting shot at or ambushed. We had multiple instances where we were neatly forming up, or just coming to a full stop in the middle of an ambush or getting RPG’d at the NATO base. That should just never happen. Get going, being a sitting duck is bad.

Also, if you are a convoy lead and you take a wrong turn in the middle of a city ambush, don’t stop to turn around. If you have any choice at all, just keep going and find another route. Stopping can get everyone killed in a heart beat.

Nice Op cheers Quantum.

Thanks to MMG for great Op.

I could hear MMG the entire op, but I don’t think I actually saw them at any point, other than when I stole some of your STANAGs. What AR did you have? Seemed loud, unless that was because of the reverb from the buildings around us?

Standard US Faction so whatever they use, M240 I think?

Yeah, I was using the M240B.
Think the only time I stopped firing, was when I got downed.

I had a small issue with some of the enemy rubberbanding, anyone else experienced this?

I had no issue with it, but the map is a lot more intense than most so it’s probably that .

This is the third time I’ve fast roped into Mogadishu in as many summers as I’ve been here, but it’s always fun. Interesting to me how how we improved in certain aspects. I remember one insert where fast roping went so bad half the squad needed emergency medical treatment, and the other half needed to reconnect after getting DCD’d. We then sat 10 minutes on the corners of the hotel block waiting for reconnects and medical to be done before going in.

I gotta say the hotel clearing was great. It’s a shame Alpha still lost 3 ppl to DC’s before going in. But we were in and out within 5 minutes. As we went up red team took the first floor, mmg/plt took the second floor and my yellow team took the third floor, and by that time red team was already behind us going to the 4th I think. On the 3rd floor we found the 4 hostages, got them all out alive and into the transports and we were moving within another couple of minutes.

The convoy getaway in the city could’ve been better since PLT who had the plan wasn’t on shortrange and vic 1 constantly ran into roadblocks so we ended up at the UN base, but this turned out to be not too bad since we could drop of the hostages and head out to secure the crash site.

At the crash site it wasn’t clear to me (and I don’t think 20330489 yellow lead either) what the plan was after we found all pilots KIA. We were just told to secure the east, but not for how long or why. As a result we sat in a pretty bad place, expecting to move out any second. When the big contacts then hit us there was not much we could do but hunker down in and around our small petrol-station shop. We also got flanked from the south-west which I didn’t expect, and those guys killed me (since yellow also already had 2 other people down). It’s a shame I went down at 21:01 - I think here maybe that counter attack from the rebels could’ve occurred a couple minutes earlier so that if casualties took place (it could’ve easily been more), people wouldn’t potentially have to wait an hour to come back in. Also, I think we could’ve done without the NVG’s. I did use them now because they’re good, but I preferred not to.

Fortunately (for me) some more people died so after 20 minutes we got reinserted. We defended the UN-base for a while.
The convoy back to base was very hectic and I thought at the time we should’ve stopped somewhere to treat wounded. Alpha’s truck got shot to bits with over half the people unconscious at times. However, the decision was made to push through to the end and it all worked out with only 1 KIA as a result, which given the circumstances was very good. (I had the ulterior motive that I wanted to get stuck for longer in Fallujah as well, since it is the best map.)

All in all, great mission and pretty good execution!

The general idea once you guys got to Nightbird 3’s crash site was you’d come under heavy fire and have to hunker down for the night, then when morning came I’d have Humvees from the 10th Mountain arrive (but with not enough seats for everyone) and you’d have to run the Mogadishu Mile. Didn’t expect 3602631 to decide to move out with the few vehicles you had left and the UN Base defence/convoy back to airfield were improvised. Also didn’t shoot down a 2nd Blackhawk considering how late it was and didn’t seem necessary so just flew it back to base
