Not sure if I should post this here or in the brainstorm thread about AT.
Anyways, I wanted to know if there was anything I could’ve done different/better with my M72 against the BRDM. In my recollection it came on us from down the road, and as soon as we spotted it we took cover behind a building. I instantly took out my M72, and then the BRDM was just driving straight past us into the field removing all our cover. I quickly asked if I could fire my AT (got told yes) and tried to move to the side of the building to prevent my backblast hitting it, but I didn’t want to expose myself too much to enemies that were possibly in the town around the corner. Meanwhile the BRDM was I think briefly out of sight in defilade from a ditch or something in the field and then it came out and stopped. I didn’t know if it was going to move again so I lined up my shot on the center of its side-body and fired. I saw the rocket hit, but a second later I got shot dead by it. This all happened in the space of roughly 10-15 seconds.
So what I want to know is:
Should I have aimed for the back to take out its engine? (Idk if that also disables the turret, or if it default explodes if the engine goes. Also if it had moved again my shot might have missed entirely.)
Should we have first run to the back of the building to take cover there? (That would have exposed us to the center of the town which we hadn’t cleared yet.)
Is taking the risk of backblast hitting me or my fireteam acceptable when there’s a vehicle shooting at you while you have no cover? (Idk the damage a backblast can do.)
I’m also asking this because in the brainstorm thread people are talking about precision firing, hitting it at 90 degrees, zeroing etc, but there you are assuming we either have cover or are undetected by the vehicle. I could hardly have run 20 metres across an open field with my M72 out while being 50 metres away from the BRDM to get a perfect 90 degree shot, and expect to still get any shot off.
You can post in the Brainstorming thread.
For the overall mission my only real criticism was it was difficult for leadership to decide how thoroughly to check each objective. The briefing said so check for enemy and caches of weapons if I remember correctly. This was interpreted as a drive through unless we took contact but to avoid the drive through if we had suspicions and instead take it more carefully. I think leadership did an overall ok job at this but it would have been nice if there was more of an indication for the towns that did have a heavy enemy presence. That might have avoided the IED attack. Also it’s sometimes not easy to maintain security for the vehicles with our numbers. Keeping vehicles all parked in one place and leaving people to keep an eye on them is especially tricky if we need all our numbers to get into buildings and check them. People dislike, with good reason, being dedicated vehicle crews when they signed up as infantry. Of course if we have the numbers and the vics are armed and the town is fairly small with places for the vics to help in an attack then it’s fine but this is not often the case as we risk our transport by bring them into dangerous towns.

It was a difficult situation. Often our AT guys are insanely brave trying to help the team when really we should take our time if the enemy vic is not moving. We should all try to make sure AT can safely move to a better position while drawing fire of the enemy vehicle. You tried your best!
