Last night the Carpe Noctem forces captured our forward trench system. We are to take back the trenches and defend the town. We are expecting heavy resistance, armor and a counter attack if we take the trench system back. Picture of the trench system below.

OPORD

I Situation:

The well organized Carpe Noctem Force has captured our trench system near Stocken. We are going to take it back and defend it from any counter attacks.

Friendly Forces:

Assets:

[] 8x BRDM-2UM
[
] 1x T-72A

5x KORD Static HMG

Enemy Forces:

Carpe Noctem

Civilians:

The whole city is full of them

II Mission:

Take the trench back and defend from a counter attack.

IV Administration / Logistics:

Resupplying

Resupplying can be done by attached reinserts.

Reinforcements:

[] Reinsertions will be on the hour every hour and be adhered to strictly, no deviation is allowed.
[
] Reinsertions are the same for all, including vehicles teams.
[] Platoon Commander has a one time reinsertion wild card at his disposal, call this in through HQ.
[
] At predesignated times, reinforcements will be sent out of the base in smallest transport vehicle which can hold reinforcements
[] At predesignated times, an air transport will be sent out to pick up reinforcements from the base
[
] At predesignated times, an armed escort vehicle will be sent out to escort reinforcements from the base

Upon insertion to the AO, reinforcements should stick together until regrouping with the main force in the AO

This mission is used as a stress test to the map Rosche to allow it into our modpack permanently.
Trench warfare is dead for two reasons: Tanks and Artillery. Dagger and Mortar are therefore of high priority when it comes to filling slots. Combined with alpha, platoon and zeus, that’s a total of 18 people, leaving us 2-5.

DMT is not suited due to terrain: it’s too flat and so DMT has limited visibility over the entire trench network, from what I’ve been told. Moving them on foot throughout the city is asking for trouble
MAT is unnecessary due to Dagger’s main gun
MMG is unnecessary due to stationary MG emplacements in the trench

So I will be taking presumable a single fire-team of Bravo as mechanized QRF, or even a full squad if we get enough people (28).

Alpha will be focused on clearing the trenches, where resistance is presumed to be highest. Heavy usage of smoke and frag grenades is encouraged. Alpha will be assigned three BDRMs.
Bravo will initially assist Mortar in establishing a foothold, and then will transition to clearing buildings, where resistance is expected to be thin, but constant. Speed should be balanced with thoroughness by Bravo lead. Most buildings won’t be necessary to enter. Civilians are in the AO. Bravo will have one BDRM.
Mortar, once established, will begin shelling trenches in advance of Alpha’s assault, and responding to requests for additional shells by Alpha. Mortar will share a BDRM with PLT to insert.
Dagger will be acting as the primary anti-armour force in the assault. Dagger is expected to be most sensitive to fog of war and the execution gap, and so it’s role is not detailed in later plans. Dagger should transition into a response/patrol role, responding to any spotted armour after the trenches are secure.
Platoon will be coordinating units as well as patrolling for QRF along cleared trenches. Platoon medic will also be available as an "ambulance" to quickly extract units experiencing heavy casualties. Sergeant, if available, will be driving.

The attack plan is fairly basic. We’ll be assaulting the west side in two groups: Alpha and Dagger will be entering the trench network from the north (into ZIRCON), while Bravo and Mortar will be assaulting what appears to be a mortar pit just behind said trench network. In the event that Bravo is empty, Alpha will assault the pit first, and then move to the trench network

Presumed Assault Route

Alternate No-Bravo Assault Route

Once the platoon has secured a foothold in the first trench, Alpha and dagger prepare to assault the next trench, TOPAZ, moving counter-clockwise.

Once the second trench is secure, Bravo begins clearing buildings, while Dagger and Alpha jointly move to attack Trench SAPPHIRE, QUARTZ and EMERALD:

Once the trench network and the city has been cleared, QRF response is expected to already be underway. Alpha is to occupy EMERALD and QUARTZ, Bravo is to occupy SAPPHIRE, and PLT/Mortar will be occupying ZIRCON. This leaves Dagger to rest near TOPAZ.

Upon receiving a contact report, elements not being engaged are expected to mount and reinforce. If an element can provide overwatch from their trench, they are permitted to remain (this includes Mortar, of course). PLT Sergeant, if one is available, will be posted to remain as a lookout in the now unoccupied trench.

Only just read this as I was finishing my thesis. My main doubt of the plan is the usage of mortar. Can our mortar crews use it accurately enough for them to hit inside the trenches? Otherwise I’m sure it will look good to do an artillery barrage before we assault, but I doubt it will have much effect. Instead extra people in bravo suited for CQB clearing the trenches/town might help more.

I don’t see why not. They’re static positions, does the mortar have built-in inaccuracy?

As for the question of having a second squad of bravo, it’s an option, but that will depend on how thick the resistance is in the city itself as opposed to the trenches, and they will have dagger support if it gets rough

Names have been changed as follows:
Names are all minerals. West, South, East trenches have been named with first letter appropriately. SW and SE are named after "left" and "right" assuming south facing. This should make names easier to remember, or even just saying "L trench" should be understandable.

You can’t plan without reconnaissance.

Worked well, Good Job LagGrenade!!
