The mission was interesting with objectives that were not too large and nice stuff happening in the background such as chinook flyovers and nuclear explosions. The problem for us was trying to balance the use of vehicles with infantry. As the commander I was concerned with enemy armour taking out or vehicles and tried to keep our IFV safe with room to pull back. I think this was reasonable given that in the end we lost it due to tank fire from quite a long distance away.

The problem with this approach was that it was difficult for them to take out enemy infantry in buildings as they were to high and too far away to spot them. An attack with the IFV from the same level as the objective buildings, where the IFV came much closer may have been more successful. The IFV would be able to immediately take out buildings when they are identified by the infantry. Obviously this would probably have exposed the IFV to enemy AT rockets and if we were attacked by enemy armour the IFV would have only the buildings for cover, would have limited visibility and could not snipe with the guided missiles. In our plan I relied on the infantry to be able to take the small towns but limited numbers and a few problems in CQB made this very slow.

Finally I would say that even in a semi-realistic game being a armoured vehicle crew is going to involve some waiting around scanning for threats and working closely with the other friendly forces. A crew who have more of a free rein to move around looking for trouble and getting into towns may have more fun but they will also not live very long. This is just my opinion but I think the rather short life span of Dagger Crews in our past operations support this.
